Private individuals formally emigrating out of South Africa may move the following amounts out of the country on their Emigration Allowance:
R2 Million per adult or R4 Million per family unit
You may also take out personal goods up to the value of R1 Million.
The South African Reserve Bank will consider, on application and if clients are emigrating, amounts greater than the above subject to a 10% exit levy.

You will need to complete various forms applying for ‘emigration facilities’ that your bank will provide you with and once you formally declare your intention to leave South Africa then your South African assets will be frozen and fall under the control of your bank.
